Opinion: Massena town supervisor defends ending streaming meetings

To the Editor:

I was disappointed with Andy Gardner’s article regarding the regular Massena Town Hall meeting that was held September 16 at the Town Hall and the fact that we did not live stream the meeting that night  (Massena supervisor says no one was available to help with Wednesday’s Town Council meeting webcast).

As I told him during our conversation, the Town had announced that they were ending live streaming prior to our August meeting and we felt very comfortable following NYS guidelines for social distancing and face masks at any meetings going forward.

During the time that the Town was streaming our meetings, there have been problems with zoom bombers and lack of audio and there have been some frustrating moments.

The Town Board has purchased the necessary equipment if we have to resort back to an AV world.

In the meantime, we will hold our meetings in public and anyone can come and watch what actions we take in person, which we think is best.

Andy Gardner on the other hand, wants to continue with the webcam so, as he said, “I won’t have to drive all the way from Potsdam to Massena.” I am sorry Andy, but it is not all about the out of town reporters.
