To the Editor:
Glenn (Niles - letter titled Opinion: Religious education an essential part of educating youth - post Aug. 2) stated that the founders came from a place of state sponsored religion. Glenn then goes on to state that the judeo-christian religion is the religion of this nation and state.
History shows that the founders were deists, or believers in higher power but not of any one organized religion. There were also atheists and agnostics in there too. Religion was separated from government due to the tyranny of state sponsored religion. That quote “one nation under god” was added many years after, specifically during the Cold War due to the idea that enemies are “godless heathens.”
Maybe Glenn should read a book on history instead of his “truth book.”
