Opinion: Lesyk has the credentials for Family Court Judge, says Norwood man

To the Editor:

One of the most important positions in St. Lawrence County is the Family Court Judge. This position requires a person with integrity, honesty, and exceptional experience when it comes to knowing the law. Families experiencing crises also need a person behind the bench who is understanding, fair, and compassionate.

I have known Alex Lesyk for ten years, first as a colleague at SUNY Canton and then as a friend. In this period of time, he has demonstrated to the people of this county a comprehensive understanding of the law as the Chief Assistant District Attorney, a Special Prosecutor, an Associate Professor of Legal Studies, and a guest lecturer for the David Sullivan Police Academy.

I was most impressed and we should all be proud that Alex won 31 criminal prosecution appeals in a row just a few years ago. These were situations where convicted criminals were arguing that they merited parole, but Alex successfully argued against their release. Several of these criminal defendants had been convicted for crimes committed against children.

Busy as he was, Alex also always made time to offer legal review sessions to my students who were preparing for their licensure exams. My students consistently appreciated the care and concern that he offered to them.

I feel that Mr. Lesyk has the legal prowess, temperament, and credentials needed for a Family Court Judge. I encourage you to vote for Alex and fill this position with a hard-working man who is the epitome of fairness and justice for all.
