To the Editor:
I have been watching the 116th Assembly race since before the June primary election. There has been criticism now and again of Susan Duffy’s decision to stay in the race since she did not win the Republican primary.
When I started asking around for more information about this, I found that she actual states from day one that even if she didn’t win the nomination for that line, she’d see this race through to November so all voters had a choice. Obviously only Republicans could vote in the June primary. I now respect her decision and don’t see it as splitting a vote since there is no Democrat opponent here.
Furthermore, Duffy is a non-establishment registered Republican who has been working hard to get her name out. Clearly this is an uphill battle against an established 20-year elected official.
Kudos to her and also to her supporters who keep insisting that we should put People Over Party. I find myself agreeing more and more with this message every day.
