To the Editor:

I’m disgusted with people attacking Gov. Cuomo. Whether Republican or Democrat, the governor of NYS faced a monumental task in protecting 19M people from a never-before-seen pandemic. The federal government offered little help; neither employing the Defense Protection Act to increase medical supply production nor banning European travel until 3/16/20.

NYS struggled to handle the highest Covid numbers in the US; as the governor begged for more supplies and filled tracker-trailer trucks with corpses. And all some people could do was find fault and show no appreciation for the difficult job Gov. Cuomo had in coping with this terrible tragedy.

Gov. Cuomo explained his frustration with the lack of consistent federal guidelines and contradictory CDC directives. He held a press conference every day for months to try to be transparent and reassure those who were panicking as the death rate climbed. Still, mean-spirited Rep. Stefanik took every opportunity to slam Gov. Cuomo with her cut-throat bickering.

Now Rep. Stefanik’s on the attack again making a big deal over a category recording distinction. Whether nursing home patients died in the home or in the hospital, the deaths were recorded. For me, the only Covid “scandal” is callous Republicans who showed little interest in health-compromised aged 65+ people, now making up 80% of Covid deaths, since “they’re going to die anyway”.

Gov. Cuomo took his job seriously and cared about people. I’m fed up with Rep. Stefanik’s usual sport of spiteful slandering and anyone who goes along with it.
