Opinion: Family Court Judge candidates should write about themselves, says Canton woman

I am writing because I see too much of the national vitriol reflected in our local race for family court judge.

This is a position that should have the utmost respect across the board. It is disgusting to see the letters from Lesyk every other day spouting nastiness. Please consider what you are running for. Instead of trying to convince everyone why they should not vote for your opponent, maybe you should look at why they should vote for you.

As far as a debate, I think it would be pointless. They would not be able to discuss anything that might hint at the way either one of them would rule in any given situation. That has been evidenced by the fact that there has never been a debate for a judges position. This is for good reason and a desire to change this is pointless.

Maybe the best course of action would be for both candidates to submit a letter that is in essence an application for the position. All their qualifications listed out with a mission statement as to why they should be judge. No mention of their opponent at all.

Leave the negativity to the national state and keep our local elections clean.
