To the Editor:
In protecting our children from criminal predators, law enforcement professionals are crucial in serving their communities and our Nation.
I started an unexpected journey to protect the safety and well being of our children in 2018; following a family tragedy.
Over the years, I have worked closely with numerous law enforcement agencies, lawmakers, journalists, families and other advocates to ensure our communities and Nation become a safer place for our children.
I learned early on the response of law enforcement to missing and exploited children and crimes against children needs to be consistent. And action needs to be immediate.
Sheriff Rick Engle for St. Lawrence County Sheriff has spoken about his willingness to forming community partnerships, reaching out to lawmakers; to protect children from harm.
Rick Engle has told us he will take action and “attend round table talks.”
Round table talks that include law enforcement have changed laws to protect our children.
With the recent uptick in school shootings, Sheriff Engle will stay ahead of the unthinkable; working with municipalities, school boards and lawmakers to obtain additional services, training and funding.
Rick Engle identified the mental health crisis, opioid epidemic, bail reform as other major issues. Issues that would also require reaching out to partnering agencies, lawmakers and the community.
Children are our future. We want to make sure that we are taking care of them.
