To the Editor:
Former Judge Eugene Nicandri’s proposal to include local governments as a rider to private property insurance policies is yet another misguided solution that would, I expect, raise insurance premiums for all in an effort to address a few "bad eggs."
I certainly do not want or need another layer of government intrusion into my private affairs. I noticed that the judge's proposal did not include a stipulation that the local governments cover or share the costs of my property insurance premiums. Nor did it include any proposal for an appropriate level of property tax relief.
To me, the solutions are rather easy: Fines, jail time, and a lifetime ban on future property purchases and ownership within the State. A registry could be created and a State imposed mandatory "search" - similar to a title search - could be done at time of property transactions purchase.
Don't create yet another overreaching government intrusion into the lives of the majority of responsible law-abiding citizens to address the sins of the few who are not.
