Opinion: CPH staff kind during death of loved one, says Winthrop resident

It is embarrassingly late (but hopefully better late than never) to express my gratitude to the nurses and doctors at Canton-Potsdam Hospital who cared for my brother David Burnett last November and December.

He was hospitalized at CPH for over 3 weeks with Covid-19, followed by pneumonia, and he ultimately died as a result.

Nurses, doctors, and all staff were kind and helpful to him, but I would especially like to thank the male nurse who, upon learning how much David liked to play cards, returned after his shift one night to sit and play cards with him. David told us by phone how very touched he was by that act of kindness and how much it helped. He died just a few days later.

Special thanks also should go to Dr. Atkinson, who was with David through his last moments and was so supportive and compassionate, both toward David and toward us, his family, who were unable to be there.

Thank you to all of you for your many acts of kindness, even if I have not mentioned you specifically.

Dale Burnett
