Opinion: County Conservative Party secretary criticizes Surrogate Court Judge candidate's tactics

To the Editor:

Mr. Pignone began his campaign with lies and continues with the same tactics. It is a scary thought that he could become a Judge. No one would want such a person deciding their family’s future.

He does not set the record straight; he twists it beyond recognition.

He lies about his own history. He did have a case in Surrogate’s Court, but he never appeared in court. If you doubt that, check court records.

When the Conservative Party Executive Committee interviews, any member can ask questions, and we did when Mr. Pignone appeared before us. Chairman Ford is only one of the members. No decision was made on endorsement until we checked both candidates’ reputation in the judicial and legal communities.

Michelle Ladouceur was confirmed by all 63 NY Senators, and appointed by Gov. Hochul. Such unanimity is seldom seen in Albany. She is respected that much. This is not the first time this has happened. Mr. Pignone should do some fact checking before flinging wild accusations.

Mr. Pignone is not a Conservative, but professes to know the mind of the Conservative voter. When it comes to Surrogate’s Court, Conservative voters want: Fair treatment, timely decisions, consideration of decedent’s wishes, kind treatment of dependents, expeditious adoptions and prompt settlement of estates. When they appear before the Surrogate’s Court, if they get this, they don’t ask the Judge’s party affiliation.

It seems ironic that the person engaging in the most libelous behavior is claiming the same for the person speaking the truth. Mr. Pignone is outrageous, and unprofessional in the extreme.

For this reason, I call upon him to terminate this embarrassing campaign. There is serious question of his qualifications to be in court in any capacity.

The only qualified candidate for Surrogate’s Court Judge is Michelle Ladouceur.

Tom Daly, Secretary
St. Lawrence County Conservative Party
