To the Editor:
With the election for our public offices fast approaching, I implore the residents to consider some facts. First, finances for the Town of Canton are in the best shape ever. With the leadership that is currently in office, one cannot deny that the state of the Town, financially, is the best it has been in a very long time.
Second, I would like to point out that transparency has been an intricate part of the process. For those who care to actually participate in the process, and not just take the word of those who would use “smoke and mirrors” to further their own agendas, they would know that to be the case.
Third, I would point out the town has indeed cut costs in certain areas which is fiscally better for the taxpayer in the long run. Changes were indeed needed and the current members in elected positions have gone above and beyond for the community. The current Town Board and the Town Clerk’s office, most recently, have made some much needed changes, all of which have been to the benefit of the community.
The unfortunate thing about politics is that there are those out there who would love to deceive the public about the truth. It is easy to “spin” the truth to fit your own agenda, especially if there are those who buy it. I would also say that when people work hard to get others elected and then they are disappointed because the status quo changed, beware of the outcome. Those officials apparently are only as good as the status quo allows and then the “game” changes. There are a few local municipalities that have positions on the ballot this cycle and I would ask that everyone pay attention to what is going on. There are those who would like to spew false facts, but some in those municipalities that don’t do themselves, what they are accusing the Town of Canton of doing. Transparency is a must, fiscal responsibility and openness are also, but not everyone plays by the same rules.
The record speaks for itself and Election Day is upon us. Make the choice that is right for us all and use your right to vote, even if you have to do a write in vote to make it count.
