Opinion: Colton town supervisor highlights last board meeting

To the Editor:

At this last meeting we passed the construction of the new transfer station of 1.5 million. This bid came under budget at approximately $40,000.00. This project will be a better work environment, cleaner, and much safer for our employees and our town citizens.

We welcome and thank Steve Knight for coming on board. He comes with a tremendous amount of background in management from the United Helpers Corporation and as a school board member as well. I think as a supervisor with his background in management skills he will be a nice addition as a member working as a team. We can always do better.

We are still working on the Lazy Hazy Daze of Summer. We need lots of good ideas to be put together with a parade. It should be a fun day for everyone. I hope to see all the businesses in the planning. We need lots of good ideas to put it all together. I thank everyone for their input and especially Lisa Fisher for spearheading this endeavor. The next meeting is June 7th @ 9:30 a.m. at the J R Watson Community Center on Sugarbush Lane, South Colton. The Lazy Hazy Daze of Summer is scheduled for July 15th.

Jim Nee and the Colton-Pierrepont School should also be recognized as well. The school will provide music in the form of a float for Memorial Day for the parade and cemeteries for the purposes of Taps. I appreciate the schools’ support in fighting the Erie Boulevard Litigation with us. In addition, thanks to Colton-Pierrepont Central School’s commitment to adding to the facilities at Swift Field. I am proud of our school district in their efforts and their community presence.

I hope the citizens of Colton will look around and appreciate, as I do, the work that has been done on our buildings and grounds, streets, and facilities. The countless hours of the volunteers, highway crew, BTI, DPW and local businesses have put in to make Colton a proud place to live. Again, we can do a lot if we work as a team.

Thank you very much to all. I love this town and our community.
