To the Editor:

This is in response to the 9/16/22 Kevin Beary opinion letter and also the ‘Lions not Sheep’ T-Shirt opinion letter dated 9/12/22. In response to the T-shirt opinion letter, I believe that you have entirely missed the point of the message on the shirt. The message was not to indicate a political stance or which animal makes a better pet. This message relates to the mentality of the animals.

Sheep are followers. As sheep run in fear they only look at the sheep in front of them and they stay as close as they can to the rest of the flock. Sheep have a flight mentality. When one sheep decides to go somewhere, the rest of the flock follows, even if it is not for the best. They will follow the flock off a cliff. In addition, sheep have very little ability to defend themselves.

Lions on the other hand, hide their young to protect them from predators. Male lions defend their territory from intruders. A lioness will do everything in their power to protect their young. They look out for all of the cubs in the pride, not only their own.

So if it was necessary for us as parents to choose a person with a Lion mentality or a sheep mentality, which would you choose to defend and protect your child. You could choose the sheep, that for whatever reason, whether it be fear, confusion or blindness, would follow the flock and lead your child off a cliff. Or you could choose a Lion that would stand their ground and not react to fear by fleeing. They would leave the flock and stay with your child and theirs to protect them with everything they had.

At a time like this, with all the atrocities being taught and inflicted on our children, who do you choose to stand and fight for your child’s safety and future, The Lion or the sheep?

I will choose the Lion. Thank God for all of the Lions that are willing to take the stand to protect our children. Thank God for the Kevin Beary’s in this world that are not afraid to speak out in defense of our children.
