To the Editor:
I will be casting my vote for Rosemary Philips for Canton Town Justice on November 3rd. Philips is running on the “Fair and Just” independent line near the bottom of the ballot.
Rosemary Philips is our current town justice. Elected in 2016, she has proven herself to be an expert, fair and just judge over the last four years.
It seems to me that a town justice, who is supposed to decide cases on the basis of law, should be an expert lawyer. Rosemary Philips is an expert lawyer. She has practiced law in the North Country since 1991 and has built up a vast experience from diverse perspectives. She has served as Assistant District Attorney, Assistant Public Defender and Attorney for the Child (Law Guardian) and worked with North Country Legal Services. Philips currently teaches legal studies at SUNY Canton.
Philips was elected on the Democratic line in 2016. Through a mix-up, no fault of her own, she is not on the Democratic line this year. Look for her on the “Fair and Just” line near the bottom of the ballot. We are lucky to have Rosemary Philips as Canton Town Justice. Let’s keep her.
