To the Editor:
Please consider voting for Martha Foley Smith in November for Canton Town Council. Martha is a long time neighbor and friend but beyond that we think she has been doing a great job in her temporary position on the Town Council.
We know her to be smart, fair and conscientious. We also know that she cares deeply about Canton, her home for 50 years. She has the enthusiasm and desire to give back to her community. Her recent retirement, from a long, distinguished career at North Country Public Radio, affords her the time to do just that.
Foley Smith is uniquely qualified for the job. With her background in journalism, she has cultivated an ability to be objective and to see complex community issues from a number of different perspectives. An ability to work well with colleagues, and excellent communication skills, are other qualities that make her a good fit.
Martha aims to bring more civility to local government by listening, keeping an open mind and encouraging public engagement.
We believe the Town of Canton would benefit greatly from her continued presence on the Town Council.
