To the Editor:
Every winter during the season of Advent, the Potsdam Presbyterian Church lights the bright blue star that stands tall at the top of the church's spire.
It's meant to remind Christians of the season of "waiting" that leads up to Christmas morn.
This year, however, because of the pandemic, we decided to light the star early. It has been shining over the town of Potsdam every night since the beginning of summer, and now that it grows dark early, the star is easy to spot if you're driving down Elm Street. While it still holds Advent meaning for us, we offer it to the community as a beacon of hope in these difficult days of Covid.
The darkness feels long, but we will get through this pandemic together. On the days when you feel like you're losing your way, find the star at night and know that we are all waiting together in hope for a new day to come.
