Massena firefighters 'Run to Remember' raises more than $3,000

Letter to Editor:

On Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, the Massena Firefighters hosted it’s second 9/11 Run to Remember 5k run. The purpose for our run is to remember victims, honor the heroes of 9/11 and help support a wonderful local cause. All race proceeds will benefit the Massena Firefighter’s Fitness and Safety Program.

The Massena community really stepped up for this event. We had 103 registered participants and raise just over $3,000. Our runners ranged from 13 to 80 years old, and as far away as Bowling Green, Virginia and Montreal,Canada. This shows us the spirit of Massena is still alive.

This event wouldn’t be able to happen without the hard work and support from Village of Massena Mayor, James Hidy, Village of Massena Police Department, New York State Police, Massena Rescue Squad, Massena Volunteer Fire Department, Village of Massena D.P.W., New York State D.O.T., North Country Now, Massena Free Trader, Massena Chamber of Commerce and the Daily Courier - Observer.

A special thanks has to go to Josie Hardy from Peak Sport Solutions. Without her, our run would still be in the thinking stages. For a second year in a row, she helped us surpass our wildest dreams.

I would also like to thank A & J Embroidery, Air Methods, Blevin's Seaway Motors, Boutot Auto Sales, Curran Renewable Energy, Curves, Delmar Sportsmen's Tavern, Deragon's Property Management, Hannaford Supermarkets, Heart to Heart Fitness, Jenack's Canvas Work, Life Net of New York, Massena Savings and Loans, Moser's Custom Trim, Nationwide Insurance, North Country Savings Bank, Pepsi Cola Ogdensburg Bottlers, Pricechopper, Quality Inn of Massena, Seacomm Federal Credit Union, Small Shadows Photography, Tri-Town Cleaners, VFW Post 1143, and Walgreens for their donations to make this event happen.
