To the Editor:
Let’s show some respect. Last week I had the opportunity to attend the 5th and 6th grade and the 7th and 8th grade winter concerts at the Potsdam Middle School. These were very enjoyable concerts and it was obvious that a lot of work and time was put into these concerts. Congratulations to all the students and instructors that took part in these concerts for a great performance.
I did observe something on both nights that disturbed me. The concerts consisted of three presentations each, by the orchestra, chorus, and the band. The disrespect that was shown by parents and grandparents who just got up and left after the second presentation, apparently because their child or grandchild was not part of the third group’s presentation, was just plain rude.
The students and instructors of the third group’s presentation put just as much work and effort into their performance as did the two preceding groups. One way to teach our children respect is through example. Not having the respect and courtesy to stay another 15 minutes to listen to their children’s classmates is not what I would consider a good example.
To those who left early, it was your loss as you missed an excellent part of the concert.
