Difference of opinion OK, but not forcing beliefs

To the Editor:

I have to say that, in this day and age, I am saddened to read letters like “Disappointed with Cuomo’s Gay Rights Stand.”

I for one am glad to hear that our officials are finally fighting for something that should have been a right all along.

So obviously, yes, I am a strong supporter of gay rights.

More importantly, I am a believer in the right to certain freedoms that every person should have regardless of color, gender or sexual orientation.

One of those rights is the freedom to love and marry whom they choose.

With that being said, I also need to point out that everyone believes different things. That’s fine. My opinion is just that. Mine.

And, just because someone disagrees with me does not automatically make the other person wrong.

What I do find wrong, is trying to stop someone from living their life how they choose.

If a gay couple chooses to marry, is it harming you?

Does their life together affect yours?

If you believe it’s wrong, or against God’s plan, that’s fine. You live your life by your belief system and others should do the same.

With all the turmoil and uncertainty in this world, why are we trying to restrict people from expressing their love?

It seems to me, that life is such a tumultuous and fragile thing, why shouldn’t we all be able to find happiness and love to carry us through.
