To the Editor:
As Nov. 2 draws near, I would like to explain why I am running for St. Lawrence County Legislator in District 9 (village of Canton and western town of Canton). For some time, I have felt a “pull” to get involved in politics. I did not answer other calls to social activism in my life, so this is a first for me as my past has been filled with other endeavors.
My desire to get involved in politics has been driven by four motives:
1. A compelling need to pay back in service to a community that for 45 years has enriched my life and the lives of my family members.
2. A conviction that, as a businessman, my management and budgeting skills could help balance a county deficit.
3. A belief that revenue can be generated by promoting tourism in a county with vast natural resources and attractions.
4. Finally, a desire to make an impact in increasing civility and cooperation among politicians in an effort to serve the people and not just the party.
I am a veteran, husband, father, grandfather, former college administrator, coach, businessman, outdoorsman, and environmentalist. I have won awards of achievement in the armed services, I have led our sons and our college team to national championships, our business has won regional awards of success and state awards of environmental green status. I have the energy, honesty, time, leadership, and vision to serve you. I ask for your support and vote on Nov. 2.
