POTSDAM -- Two SUNY Potsdam students were recently recognized with Success through Achievement and Commitment awards by the College's Student Success Center (SSC).

Tamara Durant, director of the Student Success Center, presented the awards, which were established to provide financial support to encourage the recipients' persistence and continuing success. SSC staff members and other College faculty and staff made the $500 awards possible through their donations.

Tiffany Miner, a freshman from Norwich, N.Y., who aspires to double major in English and sociology, was selected to receive this award based upon her academic achievement of making the Dean's List for the fall semester 2010, her active participation in Student Support Services (SSS) and her use of the SSC Advising Office. She plans to serve as a tutor for SSS next fall.

Wannita Richards, a freshman from Nicholville, N.Y., who has not yet declared a major field of study, was also selected to receive the award based upon her academic achievement of making the President's List for the fall semester 2010, her involvement in the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) and selection as Outstanding EOP Freshman, and her participation in Student Support Services.

The SSC staff encourages and guides students to more effectively identify and use available campus resources in order to promote their academic and personal success at SUNY Potsdam and beyond.
