POTSDAM -- Members of the SUNY Potsdam men's hockey team participated in St. Lawrence County Suicide Awareness Walk on Saturday, April 9, in Potsdam.
The walk, which began at Knowles Conference Center on the SUNY Potsdam campus and concluded at Ives Park, was put on by Gena Nelson, a senior counselor at the SUNY Potsdam Counseling Center and director of the College's Wellness Advocates with help from the Suicide Awareness Coalition of St. Lawrence County and Clarkson University.
Bears players and coaches who took part in the walk helped raise proceeds for the Suicide Awareness Coalition of St. Lawrence County for education and awareness.
The coalition, whose members represent local mental health providers, counselors, schools, human service agencies and public health, aims to reduce suicide in the county through education and outreach programs centered around the issue of suicide.
