Ogdensburg Zonta Club presents scholarship awards

OGDENSBURG – The Zonta Club of Ogdensburg held their annual Scholarship Awards Dinner at the Gran View Restaurant on Tuesday, June 21.

The recipient of the 2022 Young Women In Public Affairs Award is Hannah Belknap from Hammond Central School. She is pursuing a degree as a Speech Pathologist and plans to attend SUNY Fredonia.

The recipient of the 2022 Jean M. Coon Humanitarian Award is Brinley Frederick from Ogdensburg Free Academy. She is planning on attending LeMoyne College and studying Political Science.

Jean Coon was educated in the Syracuse area, graduating from Syracuse Law School magna cum laude in 1953. She served many jurisdictions during her career where her reputation was “unparalleled.” Her humanitarian efforts were never self-serving. Upon her passing, Zonta District 2 established this award in her honor.

High School Awards were presented to the following students:

Hannah Belknap from Hammond Central School; she will be pursuing a degree as a Speech Pathologist and plans to attend SUNY Fredonia.

Abagail Evans from Lisbon Central School; she plans to pursue a degree in Psychology. She was accepted at St. Lawrence University, Clarkson University, Cazenovia and SUNY Potsdam.

Emma Lalone from Ogdensburg Free Academy; she plans on pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education. She was accepted at SUNY Cortland and SUNY Potsdam.

Rowan Rishe from Lisbon Central School; he plans to pursue a degree in Software Engineering from Clarkson University.

Kassidie Wells from Ogdensburg Free Academy; she plans to pursue a degree in Nursing from University of Buffalo.

These awards are based on scholarship, character, leadership, service to the school and the community, as well as desire to succeed.
