Clarkson University bestows honors on several professors

POTSDAM — Clarkson University recently rocognized and honored several professors.

They include:

Instructor Patricia Perrier received the Clarkson University Student Association (CUSA) Outstanding Teaching Award. She is the Director of Operations for the David D. Reh School of Business, overseeing scheduling, course offerings, and other operational issues as well as overseeing professional experience requirements for business students, managing Global Business Program trip programs for both undergraduate and MBA student programs, and overseeing marketing and recruitment efforts and programs within the Reh School.

Gary F. Kelly has been named professor emeritus for his exemplary service to Clarkson University.

Kelly has had a long and distinguished career at Clarkson for the past 49 years.

He served as the University's associate dean of students from 1988 to 1998 and as vice president for student affairs from 1998 to 2005, when he retired from administrative work.

Clarkson University Herman L. Shulman Endowed Chair of Electrical & Computer Engineering and Director of the Center for Rehabilitation Engineering Professor Charles Robinson has been named professor emeritus for 17 years of exemplary service to the University.

In the community, Robinson co-chairs a community partner ALS golf tournament held each August at the Highland Greens Golf Course in Brushton. He was the elected state warden for the New York State Council of the Knights of Columbus, and previously served a two-year term as state secretary. He is also a commissioned lay minister for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Ogdensburg.

Clarkson University Distinguished Research Professor in Hydraulic Engineering Hung Tao Shen has been named professor emeritus for 46 years of exemplary service to the University.

He joined the faculty of Clarkson as an assistant professor in 1976, after spending two years in industry. He was named associate professor in 1981 and professor in 1983. He served as chair of the Fluid Mechanics and Thermal Science Program, chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and as associate dean for research and graduate studies in the Coulter School of Engineering. He was named distinguished research professor in hydraulic engineering in 2014.

Clarkson University Associate Professor and Director of Healthcare Analytics Peter Otto has been named professor emeritus for 14 years of exemplary service.

His areas of academic interest include information systems management, health informatics, decision science, simulation, and data analytics.

Clarkson University Distinguished University Professor Suryadevara V. Babu has been named professor emeritus for 41 years of exemplary service to the University.

Babu joined Clarkson in 1981 as an associate professor of chemical engineering and became a professor in 1986. He was named director of the Center for Advanced Materials Processing in 1999 and served in that position until 2016. He also served as vice provost for research from 2001 to 2004. He was honored by the board of trustees with the title of distinguished university professor in 2004.

Clarkson University Associate Professor and Director of the Healthcare Management MBA Program John. W. Huppertz has been named professor emeritus for 18 years of exemplary service. Formal recognition will take place at commencement. He is based at Clarkson's Capital Region Campus in Schenectady, N.Y.

While Huppertz served as director of the MBA in Healthcare Management, the program increased enrollments, achieved re-accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation Healthcare Management Education, and elevated its presence in national healthcare management organizations.

Clarkson University Professor Laura Ettinger has been awarded the Distinction in Faculty Mentoring for Research and Scholarship Award.

The Distinction in Faculty Mentoring for Research and Scholarship Award recognizes a faculty member who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to faculty mentoring in research and scholarship by actively assisting pre-tenure and mid-career faculty in developing their careers.

Ettinger is an associate professor of history in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences. She earned her PhD and MA in History from the University of Rochester and her AB in History from Vassar College. She has been a member of the Clarkson faculty since 1998. In 2012, Dr. Ettinger was a Fulbright Scholar to Croatia.

Seema Rivera, an associate professor of STEM Education in Clarkson’s Insitute of STEM Education, was awarded the John W. Graham Jr. Faculty Research Award.

The $1,500 research account is presented to "faculty members who have shown promise in engineering, business, liberal arts or scientific research."

Professor Farzad Mahmoodi is the recipient of the 2022 Clarkson’s Lifetime Achievement in Research and Scholarship Award. This award is granted annually to a tenured faculty member who is recognized internationally for a body of work that exemplifies the highest level of research accomplishment and has made a significant impact on their chosen field of study.

Dr. Farzad Mahmoodi, the Joel Goldschein ‘57 Endowed Chair Professor in Supply Chain Management, is an internationally recognized scholar in the broad field of supply chain management. Establishing and leading one of the top supply chain management programs in the United States, Professor Mahmoodi is recognized as one of the most prolific individual researchers in the field and was recognized as one of the top 100 researchers globally. An extraordinary thought leader, Professor Mahmoodi’s research has transformed industry norms and has positioned Clarkson on a global stage.
