Clarkson sociologist promoted to associate professor

POTSDAM - JoAnn Rogers has been promoted from Clarkson University assistant professor to associate professor of sociology in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences in the School of Arts & Sciences.

Rogers studied at Iowa State University, where she received a bachelor’s degree in sociology, a master’s degree in interdisciplinary graduate studies, and a Ph.D. in sociology. She came to Clarkson in 2008.

Her research is in the intersections of gender, race, class, and sexuality, as they are experienced in people’s daily lives. She has examined gender in a white supremacist movement, with a focus on motherhood within an organization of hate. Her teaching focuses on social inequality and the interactions of institutions such as government and medicine on individuals.

Rogers has numerous publications to her name and has received several awards including many outstanding teaching performance recognition awards at Clarkson University and several faculty development grants.
