Brooks appointed professor and chair of Physical Therapy at Clarkson

She joins Clarkson from Gordon College where she served as founding program director and professor of the doctor of physical therapy program.

Prior to that, Brooks served as associate professor and assistant professor of physical therapy at Springfield College; program director and clinical assistant professor in the geriatric health and wellness program at Sacred Heart University; and semester V coordinator professional practice, clinical assistant professor, and academic coordinator of clinical education in the physical therapy program.

Clinically, she has integrated clinical experience with the faculty practice pro-bono clinic stroke exercise group at Springfield College, and has practiced as a physical therapist at Bayada Nurses Home Care Specialists, senior physical therapist at Sacred Heart University, senior physical therapist and staff physical therapist at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, and physical therapist at the Burke Rehabilitation Center.

Brooks has co-published in a number of academic journals, including the Journal of Physical Therapy Education, the Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice, Health Information & Libraries Journal, and Gerinotes.

She has also delivered many peer-reviewed scientific and professional presentations as well as non-peer-reviewed presentations, and served on a number of academic committees.

Brooks holds new examiner status from the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Board of Examiners, and is a recipient of the APTA Minority Faculty Award and the African American Female Professor Faculty Award.

She is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, the African American Female Professor Faculty Award Committee, and the American Council of Academic Physical Therapy Consortium for Humanities, Ethics and Professionalism.

Prior to her academic career, Brooks held positions as director of physical therapy at Mediplex of Stamford, director of rehabilitation services at Connecticut Home Health Care Inc., and assistant chief of physical therapy at Norwalk Hospital.

She received her Ed.D. in educational leadership and policy studies from Southern Connecticut State University, her master of arts degree in motor control and education from Columbia University, her MBA from Sacred Heart University, and her bachelor of science in physical therapy from Quinnipiac College.
