POTSDAM - Three high school seniors from St. Lawrence County have earned college scholarships from the Adirondack Regional Federal Credit Union.
Those students include:
• Madeline Brown - Massena Central High School. Brown’s experience in the Learn-to-Lead program, in which she lent support to a fellow student in a challenging situation, has inspired her to want to become a school counselor.
• Lauren Duchscherer - Massena Central High School. Duchscherer, who will attend Otterbein University in Ohio, is planning to become a veterinarian; the NHS member has taught horseback riding, and volunteers for the humane society and several other initiatives.
• David Scovil II - Norwood-Norfolk Central High School. Scovil, a three-season athlete and NHS member, is interested in a law career.
The Donald DeVirgeles Memorial Scholarship is named for a former board member and president of the credit union who graduated from North Country Community College and was a dedicated volunteer. The scholarship is awarded to students who have been accepted to an associate or bachelor’s degree program and have demonstrated academic success, financial need and community or extracurricular involvement. In all, the credit union awarded 10 scholarships of $1,000 or $500 each—$6,000 in all—to students in Clinton, Franklin and St. Lawrence counties.
