Potsdam's Trinity Episcopal Church marks 175 years
Wednesday, September 15, 2010 - 11:37 am

The Clarkson Family donated the sandstone from their quarry on the Raquette River for the original Federal style Trinity Episcopal Church, Fall Island, Potsdam, built in 1836 in a style unique to the north country called "slab and binder". Façade and chapel were added in the 1880s and in 1955 the Parish Hall was added. The church will celebrate 175 years on Sunday, Sept. 26 with a service of choral evensong at 4 p.m. The public is invited. A guided tour of the church and the history of the seven stained glass windows by Tiffany will be held Saturday, Sept. 18 at 1 p.m. as part of the four-day Sandstone Festival.
