Our most recent survey considered the Canton Town Board's thoughts of changing  the highway superintendent position from an elected post to an appointed one. When we asked readers to opine, 69.8% of the 242 repsonses were in favor of an elected superintendent while 30.2% would prefer the post to be an appointed one. Some typical comments: 'That way, it's not more cronyism' and 'Too important of a skilled position to be left to a popularity contest. Take a look around the County and see the problems with elected superintendents. The County has a hired person for good reason, follow their lead.'
