POTSDAM -- The St. Lawrence County Arts Council is offering yoga classes and a specialized belly dance session for adults in December.
Classes are held on the second floor of Clarkson University’s downtown Snell Hall. Pre-registration is required by calling 265-6860 to visiting www.slcartscouncil.org.
Kundalini Yoga, consisting of simple yogic techniques that include breath, yoga postures, sound, chanting and meditation, is taught by Gurumantra Kaur. Classes are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 - 10:30 a.m.; Tuesday and Thursday from 7 - 8:30 a.m. and Tuesday from 7:15 - 8:45 p.m. Students may purchase a yoga pass and attend whichever time slots are convenient. Cost is $66 for six classes, $120 for 12 classes, or $180 for 18 classes. Students should wear comfortable clothes and bring a yoga mat, water bottle, and yoga cushion if desired.
Middle Eastern dancer Basimah offers a class each month for those with prior belly dance experience. On Dec. 4, she’ll focus on veil work, including choreography and a brief modern history to dispel myths about veil dancing. The "Winter Veil December" class will run from 2 – 4 p.m. Cost is $30, and students should bring a veil or three-yard piece of light flowing fabric. Veils will also be available for sale.
