Wounded Warrior sled hockey Saturday night at SUNY Canton's Roos House

CANTON – The Society of American Military Engineers and Canton’s Edward C. Seymour VFW Post 1231’s Wounded Warrior Project sled hockey clinic and game will be at Roos House, SUNY Canton’s new sports complex, at 6:30 p.m. March 10.

Donations will be accepted at the door to benefit wounded soldiers at Ft. Drum.

Volunteers will be needed to assist players on and off the ice.

At this event and at another game the night before in Watertown, there will be some NHL hockey memorabilia from Craig Conroy, Marty Reasoner, Zach Bogosian, and Jim Howard, as well as a signed Mike Eruzione picture of the winning goal against Russia in 1980, offered to raise more money for the program.

Funds will be used to purchase ice hockey sleds, which cost around $600, for the soldiers and families to get out and play the sport they grew up with and love. The sleds these players will use are on loan from Mobility Sports and USA Hockey. The Jerseys are donated by the Military Engineers and the VFW in Canton.

Other equipment and support comes from MAC Sports LTD, Flames, Alzo/Fanning Group, Corning/Aldous group, St. Lawrence University, Clarkson University, SUNY Canton and SUNY Potsdam. The soldier’s hockey bags are from Tony’s Canvas and Leather in Massena.

After the game is a pizza party at the VFW Post, co-sponsored by the VFW, the Knights of Columbus, Josie’s Pizza and Sergi’s Pizza.
