POTSDAM -- The community is invited to "LapSit" at Clarkson University Saturday, April 16, conducted by students to raise money for the new Center for Cancer Care at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.

To form the LapSit, everyone gathers in a circle with each person facing the back of the person next to him or her. At a given moment, every member in the circle sits back onto the knees of the person behind and next to him or her.

The event's organizer, the Clarkson University Leadership Corps, hopes to gather more than 4,000 people on campus to attempt to break the United States record.

It takes place from 10 a.m. to noon outside Clarkson's new Student Center. At 10 a.m. a carnival will begin, along with bone marrow registry and guest speakers from the hospital.

The LapSit formation will begin at 11:30 a.m. with the big sit at noon.

In case of rain, it will move to Clarkson's Indoor Recreation Center. A rain call will be made at 8 a.m.

For a $1 donation to CPH's new Cancer Center, participants will be able to enjoy a carnival atmosphere and participate in the LapSit.

For $10, participants will also receive a t-shirt commemorating the LapSit.

To register, show up Saturday morning or go now to http://www.lapsit2011.com .

The Potsdam Village Police, Clarkson men's and women's hockey teams, and fraternities, sororities and other organizations have been invited to compete in the obstacle course.

There will also be a raffle for a two-night stay for two at the Mirror Lake Inn in Lake Placid.
