Wildlife Festival in Massena Saturday

MASSENA – The New York Power Authority will host to its annual Wildlife Festival at Hawkins Point Visitors Center, Saturday, Sept. 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The admission-free event will feature exhibits of live animals, nature displays, arts, crafts and entertainment for the entire family.

The World of Wildlife and Educational Encounters (WOWEE) will again present a variety of exotic and endangered animals. WOWEE volunteers will provide educational shows at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Interactive games with the audience will be featured during both shows.

In between shows, WOWEE volunteers will be on-hand to answer questions about the exotic and endangered animals.

Mary Benvenuto from Reptiles Forever will again return present a variety of insects and reptiles, including a python and a 50 pound turtle.

Other exhibitors will include the Department of Environmental Conservation, Page Wildlife, the Thompson Park Zoo, and the Robert Moses Nature Center.

A petting zoo with farm animals, craft projects, wagon rides and movies in the Visitors Center Theater are also planned. The Massena Chamber of Commerce man a food booth.

During the festival, the Visitors Center will feature a wide range of interactive exhibits on subjects such as Water Power and the St. Lawrence-FDR Project, Basics of Electricity and Uses of Electricity, and will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors will also be able to enjoy panoramic views of the power dam from Hawkins Point.
