WhiteOut Weekend

CLIFTON: Communities of Fine, Oswegatchie, Star Lake, Wanakena and Cranberry Lake and the town of Clifton hosting annual Adirondack WhiteOut Weekend Festival from Feb. 15-17; music, food, snowshoeing, bonfires, a snow labyrinth, Bigfoot pancakes, puppet theater, magic show and contra dance, along with many other scheduled family activities; Sunrise-Sunset, snow croquet and snow labyrinth at Wanakena Center, Wanakena, free; 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Locavore event at Cranberry Lake Fire Department, Cranberry Lake, free; paint a piece of the Mega Puzzle, nature and outdoors information/displays, kids ice fishing game, get ready for Spring gardening info/activity; St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce will be on hand debuting their SLC Trails site and sharing information on all that St. Lawrence County has to offer year-round; refreshments; drawing for 1 of 2 Sevey's Point $25 gift certificates; 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Clifton Town Museum Open House with historian Mark Friden at Clifton Community Center, Main Floor in Cranberry Lake; free; 11 a.m. family movie matinee of Smallfoot, Clifton Community Room, downstairs, Clifton Community Center; popcorn and refreshments; all kids who attend will get 1 free entry to win a kid's WhiteOut Weekend shirt and Migo Plush; free; tentative, ice rescue demo, weather/conditions dependent, DEC Building, Cranberry Lake, free; 3-6 p.m. Glow skate at Clifton-Fine Arena, Star Lake, free, BYO skates, free glow bracelets; all day access to local snowmobile, x-country ski and snowshoe trails: check trail conditions and closures and utilize safe winter practices; borrow snowshoes from Clifton Community Library with your library card.

Civil War Round Table

CANTON: St. Lawrence County Historical Association Civil War Round Table, 2 p.m., 3 E. Main St.; with Dr. Thomas Baker, Zacharey Blackmer, and Emma Woolley who will speak about John Raymond of Potsdam, a lumberer, farmer, and merchant and his civilian accounts of the war; free, open to the public; bring items with Civil War provenance to show and tell.

PHS Groundbreaking

POTSDAM: Potsdam Humane Society, 17 Madrid Ave.; noon; NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets and Potsdam Humane Society (PHS) to host groundbreaking ceremony to launch a major expansion; reps from the village, town, county, and Department of Agriculture and Markets, along with reps of the firms designing and constructing the project to attend; along with reps from Congresswoman Elise Stefanik’s office; and US Army’s 10th Mountain Division; PHS will dedicate its new building to the memory of Chad Fuller. Chad made the ultimate sacrifice for his country during action in Afghanistan on Aug. 31, 2003. Prior to his enlistment in the Army, Chad was a longtime supporter and volunteer at PHS.
