Choir show

CANTON: North Country Community Adult and Youth Choirs, directed by Christine Paige and accompanied by an orchestra of 18 local musicians, will perform their annual Christmas Cantata, “Merry Christmas To You” at 7 p.m. at the UU Church in Canton; $10 for all ages.

‘Footloose’

OGDENSBURG: Ogdensburg Free Academy performance of Footloose, based on the 1987 movie starring Kevin Bacon that was also made into a Broadway musical; at George Hall Auditorium, 1 p.m. cast and crew of more than 60 OFA students, directed by Sara Pabis and choreographed by Angela Conzone-Dwyer; show will feature the classic songs you might have heard on the radio, watched on the movie screen, or seen in the theatre; $7 for adults and $5 for children and senior citizens.

Chemistry Magic Show

POTSDAM: Clarkson University Professor Jim Peploski will again bring his exciting and popular experiments, known as “Dr. Jim’s Chemistry Magic Show,” to the community, 3-4 p.m. in Room 360 of Clarkson’s Science Center; targeted to children and great fun for all ages, will benefit the Potsdam Holiday Fund, each family or individual attending is asked to bring one new, unwrapped toy or gift to donate to the fund, which provides new toys, clothing, boots and food to families and senior citizens in need in Potsdam, Madrid, Hopkinton, Nicholville, Brasher Falls, Chase Mills, Fort Jackson, West Stockholm and Winthrop; monetary contributions are also welcome in lieu of a purchased gift; Peploski's “Miracles, Magic and Mayhem” show will feature 10 to 15 demonstrations, including a free sample of ice cream made by using liquid nitrogen.

Grand Story Slam

CANTON: Howl Grand Story Slam, organized by North Country Public Radio and the Adirondack Center for Writing, will be held at 7 p.m. at the Gulick Theatre at St. Lawrence University; will feature regional winners of story slams held throughout the year competing as they tell true, personal stories; theme of the grand story slam event will be announced after the final local story slam is finished. Stories will be up to 8 minutes; no notes and the stories must be the storytellers to tell; first place local slam storytellers need to RSVP for the grand slam by Dec. 10 to info@adirondackcenterforwriting.org;ickets for the grand story slam open at 5:30 p.m. the night of the event and cost $10.
