Higley trails work day

COLTON: Friends of Higley Flow State Park trails work day, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. to prepare the cross country ski and snowshoe trails for winter. Dress for weather, bring gloves. All invited. Gather at park maintenance building, fill out volunteer forms, get instructions. Stop by the lodge when done.

Senior shopping trip

CANTON: The Canton Senior Citizen Club sponsors a shopping trip to the Waterloo Outlets and the Christmas Tree store in Syracuse; info Myrtle Regan (315) 386-8917.

Tree planting workshop

OGDENSBURG: City of Ogdensburg is hosting a tree planting workshop to help improve the urban and community forest at the Dobisky Center, 100 Riverside Ave., 9 a.m.-12 p.m.; opportunity for the whole family to gain hands on experience with proper tree selection, planting techniques, and how to maintain and care for your tree into the future, short educational session lead by Paul Hetzler, Horticulture & Natural Resources Educator from Cornell Cooperative Extension, participants will break into groups and practice their new skills at planting trees in the park; light refreshments will be served; info, RSVP at 315-386-3582.

Children’s book sale

CANTON: Canton Free Library hosting annual children’s book sale, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the library, 8 Park St.; gently-used children’s paperbacks will be 10 cents each, hard covers will be 25 cents each; also magazines, videos and more for sale; day of the sale, children may trade-in their gently used books for items at the sale; donations accepted until Oct. 31; 315-386-3712, Ext. 4.

Craft show

NORWOOD: Clark Robinson Post #68, Norwood American Legion Auxiliary, 10 Maple Street, sponsors a craft show and sale 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; crafters and artists from all over St. Lawrence County, lunch available.

Winter clothing swap

HEUVELTON: Children's Outdoor Gear & Winter Clothing Swap, 10 a.m.-noon, Pickens Hall & General Store, 83 State St.; all families invited to bring their outgrown or unwanted children's outdoor gear and winter clothing to swap for this year's gear; all clothing must be clean and in good condition; skates and other winter sports gear welcome as well; tables will be laid out with labels like "coats," "boots," and "mittens;” organizing contributions to the swap before coming will help ensure things go smoothly; activities, snacks and supervision for children will be provided during the swap.
