2019 LoKo Arts Festival

POTSDAM: SUNY Potsdam's eighth annual LoKo Arts Festival will once again provide an immersive arts experience for the Potsdam community; 17 artists from around the country & Denmark will infuse the campus and community with energy from Friday, April 26 to Sunday, May 5; festival features traditional and contemporary musical and theatrical performances, workshops and gallery exhibitions; most events are free, all are open to the public, and parking permits are not required during the festival; The Beat Authority with David Sommerstein kicks off the LoKo Festival, live broadcast from McDuff’s Pub, 59 Market St., 3 p.m.; graduating BFA students exhibit culminating works, reception 5 p.m. Gibson Gallery, Brainerd Hall; performance by Nuevo Tango, 6 p.m., Proscenium Theater; performance of “Slanguage” at 7:30 p.m., Black Box Theater; performance of “Shattering the Silence,” 9:30 p.m., Black Box Theater.

Arbor Day celebrated

OGDENSBURG: Ogdensburg Tree Commission is planning an Arbor Day ceremony, 9:30 p.m., Groulx Park, also called Veterans’ Park, and the public is invited to attend; tree commission will meet at Groulx Park at 9:30 a.m. and following the reading of a proclamation, Pat Whalen will perform a tree-planting demonstration for the public; commission will also tag an ash tree to help the public with identification on their own property; at 10:30 a.m., the tree commission will meet at the Dobisky Center, 100 Riverside Ave., where members of the St. Lawrence County Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) Task Force and Environmental Management Council will present an EAB workshop to help educate the public regarding the invasive species that is making its way in St. Lawrence County; light refreshments will be served and the public is invited to attend.

Gallery reception

CANTON: St. Lawrence University’s Richard F. Brush Art Gallery will feature a collaborative installation by students in the First-Year Seminar course, “Curating for Change,” from April 26 to June 3; gallery reception for the artists will take place at 5:30 p.m. in the Brush Art Gallery; free and open to the public.

College council meets

POTSDAM: SUNY Potsdam College Council meets, 10 a.m., Raymond Hall seventh floor boardroom; open to public.

Game night, euchre

CANTON: Game night, euchre tournament, 7-10 p.m., Buccaneer Lounge, 4 W. Main St.; FB the Bucc to get on a team.

Art opening

POTSDAM: Artist Esthela Calderon will discuss her new art exhibit, “Pollen,” and the environmental concerns that inspired, 5 p.m., SLC Arts art gallery at Potsdam Town Hall, 18 Elm St.; reception; light refreshments; “Pollen” shows a marbling technique on paper (paint on water) called marmoleado. This collection is a small thank you to the grain of pollen (vegetable) without which humanity could not exist through its own grain (ovum); open April 24 through June 5, and accessible during town hall hours, Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; slcartscouncil.org/pollenexhibit/.
