Depot Days

LISBON: Lisbon Depot Museum annual Depot Days, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., tours of the Museum, a locomotive from Vermont Rail Services parked for the public's inspection, train rides with Kenny Friedel ($1 per rider donation) hobo snacks available for sale, special presentation mid morning, new artifacts displayed; 315-393-4154.

Star gazing

OGDENSBURG: Fort La Présentation Association hosting star gazing on Abbé Picquet Trail with amateur astronomer Dr. Tim Abel; Abel is an adjunct instructor of anthropology at SUNY Canton and Jefferson Community College and the senior archaeologist at Timothy J. Abel, PhD; Abel will have his 12-inch Dobsonian telescope on the Fort de la Présentation field starting at 8 p.m., weather-permitting; weather date is Aug. 23; bring flashlights and lawn chairs, your personal choice of insect repellent, and binoculars or even your own telescope if you have one; intersection of Albany Ave. and NYS Rt. 68.

WADDINGTON: Meet local author Margaret Mooers, noon-2 p.m., Artworks Creperie, 2 Main St.; author of six murder mysteries, and recent book “The Lies That He Told,” copies available for purchase.

LISBON: Lisbon Homecoming 2019 will be held Aug. 16, 17 and 18 with live music, food, games, Depot Day, fireworks and other family activities; All day, Garage sales throughout town; 7-10 a.m., Breakfast at United Presbyterian Church; 8:15-10:30 a.m., Lisbon Wesleyan Church Walk/Run at Fireman’s Field; 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Book sale at Lisbon Hepburn Library; 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Vendor show at Lisbon Hepburn Library; 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Depot Day at Depot Museum, featuring a locomotive at station, train rides, museum tours, historians on site to answer questions and research requests; 11-11:45 a.m., Parade down Main Street; 12-2 p.m., Chicken barbecue at fire station; 3 p.m.-dusk, Family friendly activities at Fireman’s Field with bounce houses, yard games, Chinese auction, children’s SAFE IDs, music by Plan B; 4-7 p.m., Ice Cream Social at the Congregational Church; Dusk, fireworks at Fireman’s Field.

Woods walk

PIERREPONT: Northern Adirondack Members of NYFOA and all forest enthusiasts are invited to participate in a woods walk at Glenmeal Maple Lane Farm, 673 Glenmeal Road, 9 a.m.; two woods walk sessions; morning session will highlight a young sugarbush growing on a site which was clear cut between 1961 and 1975 and shows some of the residual effects of Ice Storm '98; afternoon session will visit the harvest site of large sugar maple completed in February of 2019 and proceed through a stand of mixed forest which was thinned in 1987. Mike Corse a local mushroom grower will discuss how he grows mushrooms and makes his living selling to area restaurants and local markets; NYSDEC forester Steve Sherwood will speak about Emerald Ash Borer, Forest Tent Caterpillar and Spotted Lantern Fly; “build your own“ sandwich style lunch with beverages and light desert will be provided; pre-register by contacting Scott Bonno at 315-854-7788 or preferably by email atglenmeal@yahoo.com.

Anniversary celebration

MADRID: Christian Fellowship Centers will celebrate their 45th anniversary with a special service, 2 p.m., 3662 County Route 14; picnic to follow.

Seniors bus to Market

POTSDAM: St. Lawrence County Office for the Aging and St. Lawrence County Public Transit are teaming up to bring senior citizens to the Farmers Market; staff from both organizations will ride the bus to assist with questions or concerns; seniors who register will receive a free bag and lunch/snack the day of the event; Farmers Market coupons for eligible seniors will be available at the event; pre-registration by Aug. 9 is required: call Christiana at 315-376-4730 to register; pickups at: Debra Drive 9 a.m., Mayfield Apartments 9:15 a.m., Racquette Acres 9:20 a.m. and Midtown Apartments 9:30 a.m. to Potsdam Farmers’ Market and return.

Community festival

LISBON: United Presbyterian Church of Lisbon hosting annual Lisbon Homecomoing breakfast, 7:30-10:30 a.m.; includes ham, sausage, toast, scrambled eggs, French toast, hash browns, juice, coffee; $7 per person.

Ice cream social

LISBON: Ice cream social, 4-7 p.m., First Congregational Church community room, corner of Five Mile Line Road and County Route 28; hamburgers, hot dogs, sausage with peppers and onions, sundaes, banana splits, cones.
