Halloween party

POTSDAM: St. Lawrence Health System will host a “Have a Safe and Happy Halloween,” Children’s Party 4:30 to 6 p.m.; North Country Children’s Museum, 10 Raymond St.; children under 12 welcome accompanied by an adult; no charge for this event; costumes are optional; representative from the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department will discuss Halloween safety tips; free access to museum exhibits, snacks, and a video of “It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown,” as well as visits with the SLHS Puppets, Dr. T. Family Fun Night

CANTON: St. Mary’s Catholic School, 2 Powers St., will host a Halloween Family Fun Night, 6-7 p.m., in the school gym; crafts, games, fall-themed treats and drinks, photo booth and pumpkin painting; costumes are encouraged but not required; free to attend, but attendees are asked to bring a fall drink or treat to pass if they are able.

Redevelopment meeting

Tai Chi fundraiser

Human trafficking panel

POTSDAM: Clarkson University hosting a panel discussion titled "The Crime of Human Trafficking,” 7 p.m., in the student center multipurpose rooms, prominent officials of the Human Trafficking Task Force will speak on the challenges surrounding the prosecution of this crime and how to recognize it in our own communities; speakers: Susan Gagnon, managing attorney, Legal Aid Society of Northern New York; Carl J. Boykin, Director of Human Trafficking Prevention, NYS Division of Criminal Justice; Estelle Davis, NYS Department of Labor; and Renan Slagado, Director of Human Trafficking Specialist, Worker Justice Center of New York; sponsored by the Clarkson University Newman Club and Diversity & Inclusion Office.

SLU writers series

CANTON: St. Lawrence University’s annual Writers Series will continue its 2019-20 season with author Aminatta Forna, 8 p.m., Sykes Common Room; free and open to the public; Forna is the author of the four novels “Happiness,” “The Hired Man,” “The Memory of Love” and “Ancestor Stones”, and the critically acclaimed memoir “The Devil that Danced on the Water;” her fiction has won the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize Best Book Award and the PEN Hurston/Wright Legacy Award, has been short-listed for the Neustadt Prize, the Orange Prize for Fiction, the IMPAC Award, the Warwick Prize, and nominated for the European Prize for Fiction; 315-229-5125.
