Cold Out Gold Out

POTSDAM: Clarkson University’s fourth annual Cold Out Gold Out winter celebration; community is invited to join students and alumni for a weekend of hockey, outdoor ice skating, hot chocolate, horse-drawn carriage rides, fireworks, ice carver demonstration and more March 1 and 2; Crafty Kids event 1 p.m., family-friendly activities in the Main Event Tent on Cheel Lawn, including an ice cream sundae bar, a meet and greet with members of the men’s hockey team and Olympian Renata Fast ’16; alumni hockey game at 5:30 p.m. on the outdoor ice rink, which will immediately be followed by a fireworks presentation at 6:30 p.m.; men's hockey team will face off against Cornell University at 7 p.m. in Cheel Arena, first 2,500 attendees will receive a free COGO t-shirt; after the game will be outdoor skating under the stars or the Ice Bash, featuring a 12-foot ice bar; see full schedule at cuonline.clarkson.edu/cogo2019.

Sugaring Off Party

CANTON: TAUNY Center’s annual Sugaring Off Party, 1-3 p.m., 53 Main St.; $5 donation, open to the public; readings, fiddlers, French folk dances, spoon playing, wax-on-snow.

Community breakfast

POTSDAM: Community breakfast, 8 to 11:30 a.m., AmVets Post 282, 6771 U.S. Hwy. 11, open to public, donations accepted, 315-528-9543.

Ribbon cutting

MASSENA: Grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting will be held for Kaboom Bumper Cars and Jungle Fun Mini Golf at the St. Lawrence Centre mall, noon-4 p.m., ribbon cutting will be at noon; Belly Buttons the Clown will be doing face painting all day; bounce houses will be open; The Studio will be doing a dance presentation at 2 p.m.; Girl Scouts will be on hand recruiting and there will be basket giveaway and a live broadcast from 96.5 Live.

Tree tapping ceremony

WADDINGTON: Annual tree tapping ceremony, 11 a.m., Sweeter Creations Sugar House, 3345 State Highway 345; live demos daily, pancake breakfast, candy making, cotton candy making, syrup making weather permitting, door prizes.

Cornhole tournament

RENSSELAER FALLS: Cornhole tournament, at Rensselaer Falls Fire Department, registration at 1 p.m., bags fly at 2 p.m.; refreshements, entertainment, raffles, more; $20 per team ($10 per player), or $30 per team which includes two food tickets; first place is a cash prize, runners up get a gift card to Fobare’s BBQ and Catering Company Inc.

Art show reception

OGDENSBURG: Opening reception for Frederic Remington Art Museum’s College Student Juried Art Exhibit, 2-4 p.m., public invited; open to students at four area colleges and universities: Clarkson University, St. Lawrence University, SUNY Plattsburgh, and SUNY Potsdam; 110 images submitted by 42 artists.

Trivia night

POTSDAM: Cabin Fever Trivia Night hosted by GardenShare, 7 p.m., Elks Club, Elm Street; admission is $25 per person or $12.50 for students with I.D.; proceeds from the event will be used to further GardenShare's work to combat hunger in St. Lawrence County; teams of four answering 10 questions in five different categories with prizes for the first and second place teams, best team name and best team uniform; ttendees who come as an individual or smaller groups will be matched with others to create a team of four; refreshments for the evening will be provided by Big Spoon; Elks Club will have a cash bar available;; sponsors: St. Lawrence Health System, Stauffer Farms, Canton Apples, Canton Farmers Market; registration, info: www.gardenshare.org, 315-261-8054.
