Worldwide Constellations

POTSDAM: Worldwide Constellations, free planetarium show, shows are held every Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m., in the Dr. Frank A. Revetta Planetarium, located in the basement of Stowell Hall; each show lasts about 45 minutes, and guests of all ages are welcome; attendees are encouraged to arrive early, because once the show begins, the door is locked; no food or drink are allowed in the planetarium, and as darkness is required, cell phones cannot be used during the show; free parking is available in Lot 6, near Kellas Hall.

Public hearing

CANTON: St. Lawrence County Office for the Aging will host a public hearing on the 2020 Plan for Program on Aging under the Title III of the Older Americans Act of 1965, 9:30 a.m., Human Services Building, 80 State Highway 310, second floor conference room; the public is invited; those attending who need special accommodations, such as a sign language interpreter, language interpretation services, braille, or any other type of accommodative service, can call ahead to make this request; hearing will provide older adults, caregivers, and other beneficiaries an opportunity to comment on proposed program changes and service modifications of Older Americans Act Programs; Medicare.gov presentation after the public hearing to demonstrate the new Medicare.gov Plan Finder; as well as assist clients with signing up for personal accounts.

Fairfield grand opening

CANTON: Newly constructed Fairfield by Marriott Canton hotel, 5955 U.S. Route 11, will host a grand opening event, 5-7:30 p.m., tours, giveaways, complimentary food and beverage, chance to win 25,000 Marriott Bonvoy Points, and a formal ribbon cutting are planned; admission is free but guests are encouraged to bring an item to donate to the hotel’s drive for the Potsdam Humane Society; 315-379-9222.

Trivia night

Candidate meet-and-greet

CANTON: Democratic candidates for open Canton village board seats hosting meet-and-greet reception, 5:30-7 p.m., at Sylvia’s Lounge and Eatery, 25 Main St.; open to the public; running for trustee are Carol Pynchon and Anna Sorensen. Pynchon, an incumbent who also serves as deputy mayor, is seeking her fourth term. Sorensen, is running for her first term.

History luncheon

CANTON: Curator Carlton Stickney, Town of Stockholm Historian, will present a Brown Bag Lunch program about his exhibit Spinning Wheels and Textile Tools at noon in the County Gallery at the St. Lawrence County Historical Association (SLCHA), 3 E. Main St., Canton; exhibit is on display through Nov. 15.

Terrorism panel discussion

CANTON: St. Lawrence University’s Department of Global Studies will host a panel discussion titled “Making the ‘War on Terror’: Past, Present, and Future” from 7:30-9 p.m., Sykes Common Room; free and open to the public.

Artist lecture

CANTON: St. Lawrence University’s Richard F. Brush Art Gallery will hold a guest lecture with artist Jingtao Liu, 4:30 p.m., Griffiths Arts Center, room 123; free and open to the public; Liu’s lecture is presented in conjunction with the exhibition, titled “Time, Space, Nature: Paintings by Jingtao Liu,” which will run Oct. 17-Dec. 7; work of Liu combines the formalist elements of Chinese traditional painting with an eclectic array of eastern and western traditions, three sections of work explore cultural intersections using techniques from across the span of Chinese aesthetic traditions.

Book sale, membership

OGDENSBURG: Friends of the Ogdensburg Public Library invite the public to its annual Fall Book Sale and Membership Drive at the Ogdensburg Public Library, 5-8 p.m.; hard cover ($3) and children’s books (50 cents), DVDs ($2), CDs and puzzles ($1); “Friends” members receive 50% off purchases throughout the sale; Annual Friends Reception at 5 p.m.; proceeds support the library
