Battle of Ogdensburg

OGDENSBURG: 206th anniversary of the Battle of Ogdensburg celebration, hosted and organized by the Fort la Presentation Association; wreath laying ceremony at Sheriff York’s grave at Ogdensburg Cemetery at 10:30 a.m.; annual battle re-enactment at Van Rensselaer Point (Lighthouse Point) is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.; www.fort1749.org.

Amo benefit bowling

OGDENSBURG: Benefit bowling tournament for Alyce Amo at Ogdensburg Bowl, starting at 1 p.m.; Amo has stage 4 throat cancer, proceeds from the event will help cover her medical costs; no tap tournament with 5-person teams; $75 entrance fee; Ogdensburg Bowl at 315-393-9704 after Feb. 3 to register a team; food, Chinese auction and a 50/50 raffle.

ADK club presentation

POTSDAM: Newfoundland Wilderness Experience on the Great Northern Peninsula, free slide presentation by Laurentian Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club (ADK), public invited; Potsdam Civic Center Community Room above the police station, 7 p.m.; members will recount their recent trip to the Great Northern Peninsula where they explored mountains, fjords and the national parks of Newfoundland; geology, wildflowers, roadside gardens, whales, iceberg (one), Vikings, the spectacular views they shared and how they got “screeched in.”

‘Super Hero Sunday’

POTSDAM: North Country Children's Museum; 11 a.m.; hands-on activities; create “Pop Art” in comic books; meet North Country Crusader team of Wonder Woman, Batman and friends and take pictures with their favorite super heroes; programs are free with the cost of admission or membership; info, www.northcountrychildrensmuseum.org/events/.

Violence alternatives

CANTON: 2019 Social Justice Initiative (SJI) of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Canton invites the public to an introduction to the Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP), noon, church’s Romer Room; presenters Denise Mock and Sean Vitali will share their experiences with this program, which provides experiential workshops designed to help communities and individuals break down barriers to open communication, challenge racial and gender-related stereotypes, and encourage self-worth and compassion for others; introduction to a full AVP workshop to be scheduled later in the fall.

Appreciation open house

COLTON: Appreciation open house for Ed and Judy Fuhr for their work at Higley Flow State Park, 1-3 p.m., Higley Trails Lodge, Higley Flow State Park.

Ham dinner

CANTON: First Presbyterian Church on the Park will serve a ham dinner from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Menu includes ham, coleslaw, macaroni and cheese, assorted pies and beverage. The cost is $8 adults, $5 children age 5-10. Those under 5 and over 90 are free. Takeout will be available.
