POTSDAM -- The Volunteer Transportation Center Inc. (VTC) is making preparations for the first North Country Mac & Cheese Cook-Off, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 9, at Clarkson University’s Cheel Arena, 8 Clarkson Ave.

The event will be held as a fundraiser for the services provided by the Volunteer Transportation Center for the people of St. Lawrence County.

This event will begin at 10:30 a.m. and feature judging of entries, which will conclude at 2 p.m. Awards are presented at 2:30 p.m. prior to the start of the women’s hockey team home game at 3 p.m.

The VTC is seeking (15) teams to enter to show off their culinary skills with their best recipes for macaroni and cheese. Each entry is judged by a panel of local judges and the winner takes home top bragging rights along with cash prizes. There will also be a People’s Choice prize.

“This event is being modeled after our annual North Country Chili Cook-Off that we’ve held in Watertown for the past 20 years,” said VTC Executive Director Sam Purington. “We’ve wanted to hold a similar event to raise money for the charitable trips we provide for people here in St. Lawrence County and this seemed like a great fit. After all, who doesn’t like mac and cheese?”

Anyone wishing to enter must complete an entry packet and pay a $50 registration fee. This can be done online at www.VolunteerTransportationCenter.org or by contacting St. Lawrence County Program Director Christine Richardson at 315-714-2034 or christine@volunteertransportation.org or Foundation Director Jeremiah S. Papineau at 315- 755-2918 or jeremiah@volunteertransportation.org. Additional paperwork will be provided once the initial interest form is received.

Sponsors are also being sought for this inaugural event. Those interested in underwriting this event may contact Mr. Papineau or Ms. Richardson.
