CANTON – The TAUNY Center will hold traditional arts workshops for children on the first Thursday of October, November, and December, from 3:30-5:30 p.m.

This fall, the workshops will be free thanks to generous support from Community Bank.

Space is limited and pre-registration is required for all three workshops. Sign up by contacting 386-4289 or info@tauny.org.

• Oct. 6. -- Any time between 3:30 and 5:30, families are welcome to come and carve a jack-o-lantern. All materials, including pumpkins, will be provided.

• Nov. 3 -- Workshop will be led by Sudjai Bentley of Tupper Lake, who grew up in Thailand weaving toys out of palm fronds, and translated this folk art into a more North Country medium---birch bark. She will lead children of all ages in creating a small, heart-shaped basket out of birch bark.

• Dec. 1 -- Youngsters can learn about the art of rug braiding from Heritage Award recipient and master rug braider Helen Condon of Parishville. Condon will teach children aged 7 and older how to braid a wool door knob hanger in holiday colors.
