POTSDAM -- SUNY Potsdam's Department of Chemistry will present a free family-friendly campus carnival, Chemtoberfest, Friday, Oct. 21 in Minerva Plaza, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a ceremony at noon.
Part fall festival, part science fair, the event will feature science demonstrations, crafts, giveaways, a chemistry magic show, and food provided by PACES.
Attendees can see demonstrations of the chemistry behind snacks like cotton candy, ice cream and popcorn; the fermentation of hard cider; and the cinema chemistry behind special effects in movies like "Harry Potter."
The public is welcome. More info: www.chemistry2011.org
