CANTON -- SUNY Canton will host its inaugural series of summer esports day camps for middle and high-school students.
"Our camps will focus on developing skills and game strategies while promoting leadership, teamwork and communication," said SUNY Canton Director of Athletics Randy B. Sieminski. "Students who attend the camps will compete in one of the premier collegiate eSports facilities in the nation, and they'll be using the best gaming computers and network capabilities available
Students will work directly with the college's professional coaching staff and members of the championship-winning teams in Blizzard's "Overwatch" and Epic Games' "Fortnite."
"The camps will provide students an experience similar to being a collegiate esports varsity competitor in a fun environment." said Esports Coordinator Charles W. Murray, who is also the college's Overwatch coach. "Our skills and drills practices combined with our daily competitions will create an exciting experience that will assist our young gamers in improving their abilities as well as interactions with others."
Camps run beginning at 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Fridays beginning on July 8 in the SUNY Canton Esports Arena.
Students will be playing on the same state-of-the art Alienware computers and ergonomic peripherals used during collegiate matches.
