If you are looking for a fun fitness activity with social distancing, then you may want to join the St. Lawrence Valley Paddlers.
Based in Canton, the paddling club is 30 years old. “The goal of the club is to promote sport and fitness through recreational and competitive paddling,” states their website.
The club sponsors a weekly group, ‘Scrambles’, that paddles 4-6 miles on the Grasse or Little Rivers near Canton, as well as duathlons and races.
Members range from novice paddlers to pro racers. They paddle solo and tandem canoes and kayaks, as well as stand-up paddleboards.
At last Wednesday’s paddle, the group of about 20 people ranged from college students to families, couples and single adults.
The club invites those interested in paddling with SLVP to come out and see what they are all about. They currently paddle Wednesdays at 6 p.m. at the DEC boat launch on Rt. 68, three miles west of Canton.
