CANTON — St. Lawrence University’s Laurentian Singers will perform “An All-American Christmas Concert” at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, at the Edwards Opera House and at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, at St. Lawrence University's Gunnison Memorial Chapel.

Both concerts are free and open to the public.

Director of Music Ensembles Barry Torres will lead the performance, which will include a selection of 20th-century popular seasonal classics made famous by such artists as Bing Crosby, Judy Garland, Elvis Presley, Doris Day.

The concert will also feature Michael Farley on tenor saxophone and Barbara Phillips-Farley as accompanist.

Titles will include “Blue Christmas” featuring soloist Abby Hale ’19 of Edwards, “White Christmas,” “Silver Bells,” “Winter Wonderland,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” “Christmas Time is Here (Charlie Brown Christmas),” and from the pen of 1924 St. Lawrence Alumnus J. Kimball Gannon, “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.”

The program will open with a set of Appalachian carols, including “I Wonder as I Wander” and “Cradle Hymn” as arranged by Potsdam composer Arthur Frackenpohl.

This will be followed by renditions of 19th-century carol/hymns sung in their original four-part harmonization: “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear” and “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day.”

The concert will close with a sing-along of well-known carols.
