CANTON -- Due to gathering restrictions and many other COVID related concerns, the St. Lawrence County Cancer Fund has made the decision to move to a virtual event for the 2020 Edward I. Moses Walk/Run for Life.

Participants may do their own version of the Walk/Run for Life and raise important funds to support programs in St. Lawrence County now until the virtual event wraps up on Saturday, Oct. 3.

Supporters can walk at St. Lawrence as we usually do, take a stroll at Partridge Run, hike a favorite trail, take a bike ride or do any other enjoyable activity.

Online registration and fundraising will once again be available through the GiveLively platform by visiting our website at www.walkrunforlife.com.

Those who feel comfortable asking for donations face to face may also do so, or you can use a combination of online and in-person fundraising. All donations can be turned in to the SLCCF on Saturday, Oct. 3 at Coakley’s Hardware in Canton from 10 a.m. to noon. At this time, participants who raise $50 or more will receive their event t-shirt.

In an effort to reduce costs and maximize grant support for the organizations funded by SLCCF, organizers will not present sponsors with a t-shirt.

Only event participants will receive a shirt this year. To be guaranteed a t-shirt on Oct. 3, visit the SLCCF website and put your order in by Sept. 18, or contact Norma Jean Coloton at 315-386-5257 or Michelle Kerr at 315-778-4920.

The focus of E.I. Moses 2020 is to ensure the organization raises as much money as possible to support local cancer programs in the community. The efforts of participants and the support of those who donate to the cause provided $50,000 in 2020 for cancer screenings, education, transportation to treatment and other programs which contribute to the local fight against cancer, said a press release from the organization.

Grants were awarded to Ryan’s Wish, Center for Cancer Care at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Help Sami Kick Cancer Foundation, Gouverneur Hospital and Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.
