CANTON – Kids get to try their hands at carding and spinning wool at the Second Saturday Children’s Program at the St. Lawrence County Historical Association, 3 E. Main St., Saturday March 10 at 11 a.m.

This is another in the SLCHA’s series of fun and free monthly educational programs for kids age 4-10, and is the third program of the Sheep to Shawl series.

Holly Scott of Norwood helped kids make drop spindles out of an old CD and dowel in February.

Now she will show kids how to use these homemade drop spindles to spin wool.

Children who were not at the February program will get a chance to spin wool as well.

Of course, before the spinning can take place the wool will need to be carded.

Carding is the process of breaking up clumps of wool and aligning or combing the fibers parallel to each other.

Scott will demonstrate carding for the kids using hand carders.
